1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include storage in your browser, scripts that read information from your device, and tracking pixels. In this policy, we call all of them “cookies”.
UK law, in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, requires your consent before cookies are stored on or read from your device, unless an exception applies. Exceptions include cookies that are strictly necessary for a service that you have asked for, and technologies used only to collect statistics that help improve a website, as long as you are told about them and can object.
2. How we use cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum on foresty.me:
- Strictly necessary. We store your cookie choices in your browser, and Cloudflare may set security cookies when its protection is active. These do not need consent and cannot be switched off.
- Cookieless statistics. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and measures how fast pages load. It does not set cookies, does not use your browser’s storage, and does not create identifiers or profiles. Because it is used only for statistics that help us improve this website, UK law does not require consent for it, but you can switch it off at any time.
- Analytics cookies. Google Analytics 4 helps us understand how visitors use the website. We load it only after you accept analytics cookies.
- Marketing cookies. We do not use any. The category exists in our cookie settings so that any future advertising technology stays off unless you allow it.
3. The cookies we use
| Name | Provider | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
foresty.consent (browser storage) |
Foresty | Strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie choices and when you made them. | 6 months, then we ask again |
__cf_bm |
Cloudflare | Strictly necessary | Distinguishes people from automated bots, when Cloudflare’s bot protection is active. | 30 minutes |
cf_clearance |
Cloudflare | Strictly necessary | Records that your browser passed a Cloudflare security check. | Usually 30 minutes; up to 1 year |
Cloudflare Web Analytics (beacon.min.js) |
Cloudflare | Cookieless statistics | Counts page views and measures page performance, without cookies or identifiers. | Nothing is stored on your device |
_ga |
Analytics, with your consent | Distinguishes visitors. | 2 years | |
_ga_<container-id> |
Analytics, with your consent | Keeps the state of your visit. | 2 years |
Cloudflare may also set other strictly necessary security cookies, such as __cfruid or _cfuvid, when its rate-limiting features are active. They expire when you close your browser.
4. Google Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, your browser loads Google Analytics 4 from Google and sends it information about your visit, such as the pages that you view, your browser and device, your approximate location and the cookie identifiers above. We use Google Analytics only for statistics about our website. We have switched off its advertising features and Google signals, and we keep Google Analytics data for 14 months. Google acts as our processor, and data may be transferred to the United States under the safeguards described in our Privacy Policy.
UK law allows some statistics cookies to be used without consent, but we ask for your consent before using Google Analytics because it is provided by a third party.
You can also use Google’s opt-out browser add-on and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
5. Managing your choices
When you first visit foresty.me, a banner lets you accept all cookies, reject all cookies or open the cookie settings. Refusing is as easy as accepting, and until you choose, we set no analytics or marketing cookies.
You can change your choices at any time through the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page, or with this button:
- If you switch analytics cookies off, we stop loading Google Analytics and delete its cookies from your browser.
- If you switch cookieless statistics off, we stop loading the Cloudflare Web Analytics script.
- Your choices are kept in your browser for 6 months. After that, or if we change this policy in a way that affects your choices, we ask again.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of analytics and marketing cookies. You can still opt in through the cookie settings.
- You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website may not work. Clearing your browser data also clears your saved choices, so the banner will appear again.
6. Our other Online Services
Our apps, browser extensions, bots and other Online Services may use similar technologies, such as storage on your device, installation identifiers or crash reporting. They explain this in their own notices or settings, and they ask for your permission where the law or the platform requires it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data collected through them.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we change the technologies that we use or when the law changes. We will publish the updated policy on this page and update the version history above. If a change affects the choices that you have made, we will ask for your consent again.
8. Contacting us
